Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is GST registration?

GST registration is a process through which a business or professional gets listed under the Goods and Services Tax (GST) system of India. After registration, a unique GSTIN (Goods and Services Tax Identification Number) is assigned to the taxpayer, which is mandatory for collecting and paying GST.

2. Who needs to register for GST?

GST registration is mandatory if:
✅Your annual turnover exceeds ₹40 lakh (₹20 lakh for service providers).
✅You sell goods/services outside your state (interstate supply).
✅You sell on e-commerce platforms like Amazon, Flipkart, etc.
✅You are a casual taxable person, agent, or non-resident supplier.
✅You want to claim input tax credit (ITC).

3. What are the benefits of GST registration?

✅ Legally collect GST from customers
✅ Claim input tax credit on your purchases
✅ Grow business across India (no state barriers)
✅ Build trust with clients and suppliers
✅ Eligible for government tenders and MSME benefits

4. What documents are required for GST registration?

✅ For Proprietorship:
-PAN & Aadhaar of proprietor
-Passport-size photo
-Proof of business address (electricity bill, rent agreement, or ownership proof)
-Bank account details / canceled cheque
✅For Company / LLP:
-PAN of company / LLP
-Incorporation certificate
-MOA / LLP Agreement
-PAN & Aadhaar of directors / partners
-Proof of registered office address
-Board resolution / authorization letter

5. How long does it take to get GST registration?

Usually, it takes 3–5 working days after submission of all documents and OTP-based verification by the GST Department.

6. What happens after GST registration is approved?

Once approved, you’ll receive a GSTIN. You can start issuing GST invoices and filing returns (GSTR-1, GSTR-3B) from the next tax period.

7. What are the penalties for not registering under GST?

If your business is liable but not registered, you may face:
✅10% of tax due or ₹10,000 (whichever is higher), and
✅Additional penalties for continued non-compliance.

8. Do I need GST for opening a current account or applying for loans?

Yes. Most banks, NBFCs, and government loan schemes (like MSME, Mudra, CGTMSE) require a valid GSTIN for verification.
